This article is all about diet plans, and points out that there are other things you need to do if you want to lose weight and hit your targets.
It is normal to put on weight as you get older, but it can be all too easy to let yourself go a little bit and put on too much weight. It is then that you have a problem, which is why many people then go on a diet. However in this article I want to discuss why going on a diet is not necessarily the best way to lose weight, and keep the weight off permanently.
You see the reason you got fat in the first place is probably because you ate too many calories every day, and ate too much unhealthy food. You probably didn't do anywhere near enough exercise either, because if you had, you would not have put on so much weight in the first place.
For example you probably know one or two people who seem to eat lots and lots of junk food all through the week and never seem to put on any weight. In most cases the reason why is because they work out a lot and make sure that they get plenty of exercise to ensure that they can maintain their current weight and do not become fat.
So if you are serious about losing weight and getting your old body back, you will probably need to do more than just switch to a healthy low calorie diet. You will probably have to ensure that you do plenty of exercise as well.
The reality is that at some point you are likely to become bored with your current diet, and will want to eat some tastier food that you can actually enjoy such as chips, chocolate and pizza, for example. Therefore if you are not careful you will pile the pounds back on and your initial diet will have been a huge waste of time.
Going on a low calorie diet will help you lose weight, but doing lots of exercise both during the diet and after you have reached your desired target will help a lot. High energy physical exercise such as running, swimming and cycling will burn off a lot of calories, so it is a good idea to do at least 30 minutes of one of these activities at least 3 times a week.
Plus you can ensure that you are remaining physically active the rest of the time as well. In other words you don't spend hours sat in front of your TV or computer and driving short distances when you could easily walk.
So the message I want to get across is that dieting alone is often not enough. You also need to do plenty of exercise in order to hit your targets in the first place, and maintain your new weight. Plus of course you will enjoy all the health benefits that comes with doing lots of exercise as well, so it is definitely in your best interests. If you don't, then I'm afraid there is every chance that you will return to your original weight and your diet will have failed.
