Green tea
Tea is a special favorite of many people and why not. With its anti-oxidant properties and many other health granting features, tea has become a boon for many. But choosing the right type of tea is important. Green tea is the most widely used tea with health and wellness benefits. Being used since 4000 years in China, green tea is derived from the leaves of Camellia sinensis plant.
But do not get confused. There are other teas like oolong or black tea which are also derived from the same plant. However, the difference amongst these teas lies in the way they are processed. The catechin polyphenol called epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), which is the one of the strongest antioxidant agent to be found till date, resides in the leaves of the camellia plant. When these leaves are kept out to dry, this anti-oxidant reacts and gets converted into other compounds. Although, when the green tea is being processed, the leaves are steamed instead. This helps in the EGCG to remain intact in the leaves. In other teas, the leaves are first fermented and thus the loss of EGCG occurs, making them ineffective.
The catechins in the green tea help in destroying the free radicals present in the body. These free radicals are highly reactive molecules and fragments, which can react with body making it vulnerable to diseases. Also, having the anti-oxidant qualities, the consumption of green tea can also help in delaying the ageing process by protecting cells and the DNA from damage.
Green tea has also shown various other benefits to the health. For example, drinking green helps in suppressing the angiotensin II, Further, the polyphenols and the polysaccharides present in the green tea, might help in lowering the blood sugar. Since long, Chinese have also used green tea to treat ailments like head aches and depression and have shown benefits too.
For people looking for ways to reduce the extra flab on, green tea is definitely good news. Recent research work has proved that the consumption of green tea helps in burning more calories in body. The research states that the consumption of green tea increases the thermogenesis (body抯 fat burning ability), while the oxidization of the fat cells also enhances in activity. The EGCG is found to be the most effective element, which helps in inhibiting the conversion of the glucose into fat cells, thereby reducing the fat deposits in body.
With so many benefits and litle negative quality, do not hesitate to approach your nearest tea shop and ask for the tea.
