Someone said losing weight is all about what you DON'T put in your mouth. However, to get a bit more technical here, activity burns calories, right?
So are there really exercises to lose weight fast?
To be realistic, any exercise program to lose weight has to be coordinated with some self-control in the intake department.
That said, let's get started, because there are lots of exercises that burn calories efficiently and drop weight fast.
First of all, muscle burns fat. In fact, muscle continues to burn fat even when the body is at rest. According to Wharton, 10 pounds of muscle burns 50 calories a day, regardless of activity! It is maintaining that 10 pounds of muscle that forces the burn.
LIFT WEIGHTS
Women seem to worry about bulking up. Wrong. In fact, women have less testosterone than men, which prevents bulky muscle mass. Women often lose muscle with age and replace it with fat, especially if they are always restricting calories in hopes of weighing what they did at age 25. A study from the University of Arizona states that lifting weights just twice a week - heavier is better for shorter time periods - prevents weight gain and facilitates loss. It is important, though, to develop a weight-training routine and stick with it for results. Weights not only build muscle and burn calories, but will reshape the body very positively with persistence. Sounds good, ladies!
AEROBIC EXERCISE
Maybe you haven't time or inclination to run for miles. But high-intensity interval training - sprinting at maximum effort for shorter periods of time - fools the body into burning extra calories, says the Journal of Obesity review. Jumping rope fills this criteria and can be done almost anywhere. Jumping rope burns more than 10 calories per minute, and strengthens legs, butt and thighs. Boxers jump rope to go 10 rounds in the ring. Hit the parking lot on work breaks and go for it! Learning to jump rope well can be frustrating, but only at first. Walmart offers jump ropes of varying weights and lengths for a very low price.
In order to lose one pound a week, a person would need to expend or avoid 500 calories per day. Running on a treadmill can be boring, but it also records calories burned in a workout. This can be very valuable - and very disconcerting! Two miles trotting on the treadmill will just equal that 250 calorie candy bar you consumed. This kind of cold realization makes some of us think twice!
Everyday Health suggests that a person should do at least 30 minutes of exercise per day to lose weight. But the good news is that you don't have to do the 30 minutes all at once to benefit. A brisk 10-minute walk around the block in the morning and a 20 minute bike ride later can do the trick. Intersperse that with three days of gym or free-weight lifting. Even the busiest of people can do these simple exercises to lose weight fast! For more more on plans and diets click here.
