I recently came across a post asking for information on diet or exercise for weight loss. The author was convinced that just sticking to a diet would be a lot more beneficial in the long run.
This resulted in a lot of opinions on diet or exercise for weight loss so I thought I would research the subject further for a similar post on my blog. This brought up more questions in itself because the authors of various content all have their own success stories. I decided to cover all the angles as they ended up at the same destination.....
The first piece of information I found on the subject claimed that out of diet or exercise for weight loss - dieting was always going to be the clear winner! Apparently it all boils down to your junk sugar intake - the less the better. The following are the junk sugar foods you should cut down on if you want to achieve a successful level of weight loss:
They went on to say that the natural sugars in fruit are always going to be alright - in fact they should take over your junk sugar input. Fruit and veg also act as brilliant metabolism boosters but try to stay away from potatoes.
This all seemed like good information to me until I read the comment section of the post. Among the comments a well known nutritionist stood out and they claimed that the content was completely wrong!
She claimed that there is no such thing as junk sugar and it has been created as a term over the last decade. Natural sugars will have the same effect as the more refined sugars if you eat to much of it and fruit and vegetables can be fattening to.........I can't help but think she was a little extreme in this comment!
So I was no nearer giving a valid opinion on diet or exercise for weight loss so I decided to rely on my own experiences with exercise for my conclusions. I'm not saying the information above is wrong - I'm just going on my experience.
When it comes to diet or exercise for weight loss I choose both. I have had exceptional results through distance running and by combining it together with a decent diet. It's what I call a life change not a diet change.
Stick the the healthy eating regimes and watch the ( so called ) junk sugar intake and turn towards healthy snacks. As well as this get your running shoes on and get out there - it doesn't have to cost a penny. Who needs an expensive gym when you have the open road to run!
At the end of the day the argument over diet or exercise for weight loss will always go down to the individual. Any weight loss regime will always depend on the effort put into it and the mindset of the individual. The more you want it the more excess weight you will lose.
Good luck!
