As a personal trainer, one of the most common questions I am asked is, “What are the best fat burning workouts for women in order to lose weight?” And it makes sense that ladies want to know this information. Being a female desiring to achieve my own fat loss goals, I have to admit that I too have, studied, researched, and inquired from my peers on that same question.
Interestingly enough, everything points to the same answer which is…high intensity interval training commonly referred to as HIIT.
Now, you may have heard this answer before, but I’m guessing that the type of HIIT that I’m referring to isn’t the same as what you may be thinking. Keep reading and I will explain.
See, most women think of fairly intense cardio work when they hear the term HIIT. And while it is true, that type of workout when combined with a good nutrition plan, will help you lose weight, it isn’t the most effective type of training to achieve your fat loss goals.
If I’m not mistaken, you want to know the best fat burning workouts for women, right? Not just…okay kinds of routines that produce minimal to average results. You want the exercises and programs that will help you get that female action hero movie star type of body in the quickest time frame possible.
Well, to achieve this then the type of training you’re going to do is a cardio HIIT combined with resistance training routine.
You’re next question may be, “what does that mean” or even, “why does adding resistance training to your HIIT exercise make it the best fat burning workout for women?”
Did you think that resistance training was saved solely for men and its only purpose is to build massive amounts of muscle? (That is the common thought among ladies.) If you were thinking that was true, here is where the real lesson begins.
The reason why a combination of cardio and weight training are the best types of fat burning workouts for women is because they work on two aspects of fat burning, one of those aspects of course being the cardiovascular piece. That is where calories are burning at an accelerated rate simply by getting your heart rate pumping and moving your body. The other aspect comes from the muscle building itself.
Did you know that the more muscle you have, the more energy your body uses to perform normal daily functions? That energy, as I’m sure you are aware, comes in the form of food or rather the calories within the food you consume. Therefore if you have more muscle on your body, then you burn more calories through the course of the day walking, working, exercising, and everything else in between.
Now ladies, while I’m referring to building muscle, I’m not talking about adding a lot of mass or size. You don’t have to worry because it’s not going to take you looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger to get the benefits of accelerated fat loss.
I’m simply referring to adding a small amount of shapely sleek muscle. Enough so that you would go from a thin skinny body design to that of the fitness models you see on most of the women’s fitness magazines. And the good news is that the added muscle also helps with the appearance of a leaner more fit body…IE: lower fat. So while deep down you may know you still have a few extra pounds to lose, everyone else who sees you only see a sculpted figure free from fat.
That there is a noteworthy bonus!
So if you want to lose fat as quickly as possible and get to your weight loss goal without delay, then implement cardio and weight resistance HIIT. Programs that provide that combination of training are your best fat burning workouts in order to help women lose weight
