Jennifer Hudson is proud of herself for losing 80 pounds on Weight Watchers. She has written a book about her weight loss, and she represents Weight Watchers. She talked with someone at Huffington Post about gaining weight for an acting role. That sounds absurd.
I have struggled with my weight for many years. I would not be in a rush to get off a Weight Watchers diet if I became a lifetime member. Lifetime members go to meetings for free as long as they maintain their healthy weight.
People with high self esteem would be more concerned about staying at a healthy weight than about what other people think they should weigh. In addition to that, I would not want to buy a book about weight loss from someone who did so well with a weight loss program and then decides acting is more important than weight loss.
Does that mean she is confident she will easily lose weight again after gaining weight? I have struggled with my weight for many years. Weight Watchers is a healthy diet plan, and people on healthy diets are less likely to gain weight quickly than people who are on crash diets.
I have been on crash diets in the past. I was on the Stillman’s diet in the early 1970’s, and my throat and tongue felt ashy all the time. It was a low-fat, zero carb, and high protein diet. I lost a bunch of weight when I was in high school. I felt good about my weight and how I looked. However, I felt deprived on that diet.
When I graduated in 1974, I went to Europe with a group, and I had two free meals a day. I had a hard time eating breakfast with my group in the mornings. I had some eggs. However, they also offered biscuits, rolls, butter, and preserves. I felt bad about not taking advantage of the delicious breakfast. I had low self esteem. I was also very self conscious.
When I blew the diet, I gorged on bread. I didn’t pay attention to how much I ate, so I gained about 20 pounds within two months.
Weight Watchers doesn’t involve extreme deprivation. I wonder how Jennifer was able to eat pizza and stay so thin, though. Pizza has a lot of carbohydrates and is high in fat. I can’t eat much pizza unless I buy special low-fat pizza. Maybe she is wealthy enough to buy a lot of low-fat pizza.
However, even without a high grocery budget, Weight Watchers is doable. Some vegetables and fruits are very inexpensive. I can also set aside points for special events and for sweets with Weight Watchers.
I know I have more energy and move more easily when I weigh less. Research has already shown obesity is hard on the body. Obesity often leads to diabetes and high blood pressure.
When I lose weight, I don’t want to gain it all back. Gaining weight back was discouraging for me. It meant I had to pay more attention to what I ate and how much I ate again. I guess I will have to keep track of my eating habits for the rest of my life.
Making money from dieting and then telling people you want to gain some weight sounds crazy. Is she trying to destroy her success with dieting and her book? Is she trying to lose her endorsement from Weight Watchers? A person with high self esteem is more likely to stick with a goal than to undermine his or her efforts.
Maybe Jennifer needs to sort out her priorities. It is okay to admit to making a mistake and then correct it. If she thinks she lost too much weight, she can try to gain some of it back. I would not recommend a large weight gain. I prefer to be thin, and that’s why I am on Weight Watchers. I feel bad I gained 40 pounds in six months. I look better in clothes when I am thin, and I move around more easily.
My health is important to me. Taking care of my health is a sign of self respect. People with high self esteem also have high self respect. Taking care of their bodies would be more important to them than the opinions of other people.
