Oh dear that event is upon you and you haven't lost the weight yet. Don't worry you can still shed a few pounds in time for your impending engagement.
Of all the diets that are about at the moment, the best way to lose weight in a week is cutting out carbohydrates. This has been proven in many studies.
What you need to do is have no fruit, no potatoes, no rice, no pasta and no bread. So really you will be eating eggs for breakfast, salad for lunch and lean meat and vegetables for an evening meal. You will be surprised how much you can eat following this system and still lose a few pounds in a week.
I have followed this system and had great results. For me it is definitely the best way to lose weight in a week.
The reason you lose so many pounds in a short space of time following this routine is because your muscles store sugar. When you forego carbohydrates, the spare sugar supplies in your muscles are used up and this is shown on the scales.
Also what happens is because when following this system your body has very low blood sugar it ends up going to your fat reserves for an energy supply. You could look at your fat as the back up generator for your body. Depriving yourself of carbohydrate means that the primary generator runs out of fuel and your body goes to the back up generator which is your fat reserves.
This is part of the reason that low carbohydrate diets have become so popular over he last decade. Your body very quickly switches from taking energy from the residual blood sugar to your stored body fat. Therefore you lose excess fat quite quickly in the beginning stages of following a low carbohydrate plan.
However after a month the weight loss slows right down and there is little if any difference in the long term to following a low fat plan. As you are looking to cut a few pounds in a week I would definitely suggest the no carbohydrates route.
A word of caution, however. Following an extreme low carbohydrate plan may be the best way to lose weight in a week. But following it for an extended period (especially with no fruit and certain vegetables not allowed) can potentially be damaging. Muscle and brain function do require blood sugar. So long term extreme reduction in carbohydrates can lead to muscle and brain shrinkage. One week, I think you can get away with but be warned that this is not a wise long term strategy.
A wiser long term strategy is to take out all the big carbohydrates like bread, pasta, rice, and potatoes but to still eat many fruits and vegetables. This way you can still lose weight in a week, get all the good stuff, and form good habits for a lifetime.
