The journey of a thousand miles begins with one step. Lao Tzu, who said this, also said "Anticipate the difficult by managing the easy" What this very wise man means is that if you take small easy steps then you are tackling what is difficult in a manageable easier way.
How many people do you see starting a health kick by trying to do it all at once? How many of them succeed? Maybe you have been guilty of this yourself. I know I have!
I have had huge success by following the tortoise approach. I have lost and kept off weight for a year now. I started by having a smoothie for breakfast and a fifteen minute walk. After a month (by adding another change each week) I was walking for an hour each day, having three healthy meals and eating fruit after lunch and dinner.
The transition was so easy because I did not do it all at once. I was not a hare racing around the track. I changed so slowly that I hardly even noticed it.
The funny thing is I still see all my friends trying the hare approach every time. They know exactly how I have succeeded but no they want to do it their way! Every single one of them fails every single time. One day maybe they will listen.
