Laser liposuction: What you must know about it

Excess weight can be a serious concern. Not only it causes serious health issues but also affects your appearance to a great extent. Health awareness has risen significantly among people and we all now want to look and feel good. As a result, health conscious urban population is flocking in health clinics and slimming centers to get that desired waist size and washboard abdomen.

Modern medical science has made significant improvements in discovering weight-loss and slimming solutions. When some of these processes are applied to cure serious weight problems others may also be performed for cosmetic reasons.

Laser liposuction is one such method. Unlike traditional weight-loss surgeries or liposuction, it, however, isn't a cure for obesity. Laser liposuction is performed on the body areas that aren't responsive to weight-loss procedure.

In traditional liposuction method normally a hollow pipe is inserted in patient's body through a small incision. Then it was attached a vacuum to suck the fat out of the body. In laser assisted liposuction method laser beam is used in the affected area to liquefy the fat stored in the body. Laser assisted liposuction can be performed in areas like:

  • Abdomen
  • Buttocks
  • Pelvis
  • Arms
  • Thighs
  • Cheek
  • Chin
  • Arm
  • Upper arms
  • Waist
  • Neck

Laser liposuction is also used in treating cellulite.

Laser assisted liposuction offers certain advantages over the traditional method. In traditional method the patient may complain about pain in the area around the incision. It may take longer time to recover from traditional liposuction surgery. But with assisted liposuction normally the patient faces less trauma, no cut marks, and smoother skin. Also, sedation is administered during the process instead of anesthesia.

Assisted liposuction, however, isn't risk free. You need to discuss both the advantages and disadvantages with your plastic surgeon prior committing yourself to the treatment. Most common complains after the surgery is done are:

  • Inflammation
  • Infection
  • Numbness
  • Slight bleeding
  • Skin burn

The recovery time is likely to vary between patients but most people are able to return to their normal life after a week. Your doctor may advice you to wear special after-surgery garment to speed the healing process.

Risk and return

As you heal new layers of skin develops. This skin is tighter and firmer. It may take six months as the healing process continues. Assisted liposuction removes fat cells from your body that are not recreated. So, once it is done you may expect the result to last forever. However, extent of results may vary between individuals.

When fat isn't deposited in the area where liposuction is done it can grow in other parts of the body. It would also depend upon your body type. If you have a genetic tendency to accumulate fat it can grow back in areas where liposuction is done as well. You must discuss all the possibilities with your doctor before undergoing the process.
