Who could have thought that a nasal spray would do wonders with your weight and helps you cut out all extra fat? For millions of people who are eager to lose weight, the love hormone 'oxytocin' might be the ultimate solution. A lot of studies in past were conducted referring women who crave oxytocin for a sense of comfort but this time it is all about men. Researchers found that oxytocin has reduced the number of calories that men consumed, particularly calories from fatty foods.
Oxytocin is just like a magic wand for those who are obsessed with food and thinking to lose weight. Researchers have found that nasal spray of oxytocin has helped almost 122 men to cut off extra fat by consuming fewer calories. Instead of the love qualities this hormone possess a new study by Harvard University researchers discovered that oxytocin, the hormone that is released while hugging, kissing, cuddling or even giving birth to child or having sex has decreased calorie intake in a number of men.
Dr. Elisabeth Lawson, assistant professor of medicine at Harvard Medical School is "eager" about the results, considering that oxytocin is an auspicious cure for both obesity and insulin problems. In the study conducted on 25 men in which 13 were fat and 12 were obese. The participants were divided into two groups; one group will be given placebo and other will be given oxytocin nasal spray. They were kept fasted and offered heavy breakfast as compared to normal routine after an hour, at the end of the meal the researchers measured the scale of calories which were very low relatively to normal routine intake. Results exposed that irrespective of weight, men who took the nasal spray containing oxytocin ate 122 fewer calories and reduced their fat intake by 9 grams. The researchers discovered that there were no side effects in either of the group offered placebo or oxytocin respectively.
Scientists have found an association between the oxytocin usage and the decrease in carbohydrate consumption while fat usage is increased, resulting in fat burning. Participants also had lower levels of insulin while their blood sugar was unaffected. This means they were handling their glucose better. To conclude, the study shows that the love hormone is not only restricted to inducing the loveable feelings in fact it has showed its benefits out of the bedroom as well. Despite of being a primary study the results still offer much potential for more research in the future.
