You run, you lift weights, you watch what you eat, and you still have a tummy that bulges. No matter what you do, you cannot get rid of the bulge below your belly button. How frustrating is that?
Here is the problem - You are not focusing on the things that give you a flat tummy. Endless abdominal crunches and running on the treadmill will not do it. Eating like a small bird will not do it either. You have to address the things that cause your belly to stick out, and it is not what you think.
Here are the 3 reasons why you have a tummy that sticks out:
1. You are bloated:
Your belly is distended due to intestinal gas that has built up and pressing against your abdominal wall. The most common cause of intestinal gas build-up is food. Mal-absorption and lactose intolerance are a couple of common reasons.
Here are some foods that can cause intestinal gas:
* Broccoli, cabbage, kale
* Legumes
* Dairy
* Apples
* Salty foods
Disturbances in your bowel function such as irritable bowel function or constipation can cause it as well. Not drinking enough water is one big reason why people get constipated, so make sure you stay hydrated and keep things moving inside.
2. You have poor posture:
How would you like to look 10 pounds lighter automatically without exercise or dieting? Stand up straight. In addition to bloating, poor posture can cause your belly to bulge. It is caused by an anterior pelvic tilt. This is when your pelvis tilts forward.
In normal anatomical posture, your pelvis should be in a neutral, or level, position. Think of your pelvis like a soup bowl. When it holds the soup, when you tilt the front of the bowl down, what happens? The soup pours out. If you look at the posture of most people, the soup is running out of the bowl because the front is tilted down. This is called an "anterior pelvic tilt" and can be identified by an arched, or extended, back and a belly that sticks out.
The reason your belly sticks out with an anterior pelvic tilt is all of your internal organs are pressing against your abdominal wall just like soup pouring out of a soup bowl.
The way to fix this is to "tuck your belly button in" and level your pelvis. Once you level your pelvis, you take the pressure off of your abdominal wall and your belly recedes. It is like you lost 10 pounds in 3 seconds simply by changing your posture.
3. You have visceral fat:
There are 2 types of fat in your body - subcutaneous fat and visceral fat.
Subcutaneous fat is the fat that is just below the surface of the skin. It is the fat that you can pinch with your fingers. Visceral fat is the fat inside your body that surrounds your organs. A "beer belly" would be an example of visceral fat.
One of the reasons why your belly can stick out is due to the visceral fat inside the core of your body that surrounds your vital organs. This extra mass inside your body presses against the abdominal wall causing it to push-out. This is similar to what happens to a woman's belly during pregnancy.
Visceral is very dangerous to your health and should be eliminated. The best way to get rid of visceral fat is through exercise. Once you reduce and eliminate this fat inside your core, you will see a noticeable change in the shape of your belly.
See if any of these reasons apply to you and start working in fixing them. You to can have a flat belly.
