#Tuesday Tip - My Awesome Protein Smoothie Recipe - Sally Thibault

I am often asked about what I eat to keep my energy levels high.

There are a number of things - but most specifically my husband and I are 'vege-quarians'... we don't eat meat, but we do eat wild caught fish.

We are also sugar, dairy and wheat free. Through trial error and 'intuitive' eating, I have found that those three foods in particular caused me to feel weighed down, bloated and impact greatly on my energy levels (and my memory!!)

But I wanted to share my absolute FAVOURITE breakfast.

I have never been a big 'breakfast person'. I am usually awake by 4:30am, and do some meditation, tapping and journalling - before exercising. So by 7:30, I am hungry, but I prefer to have a smoothie, rather than a heavier breakfast. It just seems to work better for me.

I usually have this every second morning (the other mornings we often make a green smoothie) But this is my favorite.. is just yummy, awesome and provides me with quick energy.. (and just tastes like a chocolate milkshake!!) Its the perfect way to add extra protein and helps my body repair after a workout.

Here is the drill on these two ingredients that make this smoothie so special.cacao and protein powder

The first is Thriving Protein Vegan Protein Powder

I LOOOOVE this protein powder. Its raw, non-dairy and contains essential vitamins and minerals - including iron, magnesium calcium - and it the yummiest protein powder I have come across. I also love that it is dairy free, and made from sprouted brown rice, pea protein and mushroom powders.. and did I mention it tastes DELICIOUS! Comes in a number of flavours, but I love the Vanilla one the most.

The second is Raw, Organic Cacao Powder

Benefits of Cacao - It is a potent antioxidant. Cacao can repair the damage caused by free radicals. It's rich in minerals Magnesium, iron, potassium, calcium, zinc, copper and manganese and can boost your mood as well! And best of all it just tastes like chocolate!

Ingredients

1 cup of almonds, soaked overnight
2 large tablespoons of Thriving Protein Vegan Protein Powder
2 large tablespoons of Organic Cacao powder
1 Banana
Ice and extra water.
Recipe

1. Drain the almonds and place in blender. Add another cup of filtered water and blend on high speed for about 2 - 3 minutes

3. Strain the almond mixture through a nut bag - or I use the end of a pair of pantyhose - into a jug.

4. Squeeze all the moisture from the almond meal and then empty the nut meat on to an oven tray lined with Baking Paper and place in the oven on low temp to dry out (we use the dried almond meal to make cookies, protein balls or coat fish)

5. Add another one or two cups of filtered water and icesmoothie

6. Add 2 heaped tablespoons of Nutra-organics Exotic Vanilla Thriving Protein

7. Add 2 heaped tablespoons of Organic Cacao

8. Add one banana (or berries)

(If you are looking for added sweetness without the sugar - you could try adding some Rice Malt syrup!)

Blend until combined!!
