Spring has finally sprung.
The windows are open, flowers are starting to bloom and birds are chirping away. I love it. And spring also means the baseball diamonds are starting to see some action. It is spring ball time!
When most people think baseball, they think peanuts and beer.
Handfuls of peanuts here. A few beers there.
Let’s remake this eating plan -- upgrade the traditional “baseball diet.” This way you can still enjoy the game with your buddies, yet not break the calorie bank week after week.
It’s not about “good foods” or “bad foods” but rather upgrading to improve your diet.
Though peanuts and baseball go hand in hand, let’s switch it up. Part of the novelty of peanuts is cracking that shell and making a mess.
This year, make a mess with pistachios instead, which give you much more bang for your buck, nutritionally speaking, and more per serving.
For the same sized serving, pistachios have less calories, fat and saturated fat, are a good source of protein and fiber, and give you more nuts per serving – about 49 – compared to just 28 peanuts. That’s a big difference that will help fill you up, not out. A win win.
Lightly salted Wonderful pistachios provide a perfect snack for wherever you are -- just a hint of salt, great flavor, and satisfying! If you want to kick it up a notch, try their new Sweet Chili or Salt and Pepper flavors.
So how about those beers? OK, I’m not going to tell you to sub in water for all the beers you may drinking, but certainly alternate beer with water or another non-caloric drink.
It’s about portion control.
If you’re fortunate to grab tickets to watch your favorite team, you can pack Wonderful pistachios so you have those on hands for snacking. Some MLB stadiums even offer them right at the concession stands.
OK, fair’s fair. If you do also pick up a hot dog, just make sure you get back on track the next day. It’s all about balance.
