The Push Away Diet

Why do you think the country (and world) has an obesity epidemic?

It’s interesting hearing different opinions to this question.

It’s fast food.

It’s physical inactivity.

It’s poor choices.

It’s portion distortion.

It’s too many carbs.

It’s too much fat.

We don’t sleep enough.

We don’t move enough … independent of physical activity.

We eat out too much.

The fact is, there is no ONE answer.  They’re all pieces to a puzzle.

I recently saw an interview on TV saying (again) that 1/3 of our calories are from eating out…so the authors said THIS is the reason.  And one of the people on the panel said "STOP IT — we’re fat as a country because of what we’re doing or not doing and when we stop blaming everyone else, we can solve the issue at hand."

Hearing his thoughts reminded me of a special "diet" a friend, well known strength coach Mike Boyle, talks about…The Push Away Diet.

It’s pretty simple.

You push away from the table more frequently.

Maybe an over simplified approach to a complex problem, but let’s break that down a bit further with 3 strategies to follow this "unique" fat loss approach.

  1. ALWAYS leave something on your plate rather than cleaning every last bit of food.
  2. When you eat out, ask for a doggy bag with half your meal BEFORE the meal comes to you.  When it’s in front of you, you’ll eat it.  We all will.  But we promise that if you’re served just half your meal at a restaurant, you certainly won’t leave hungry.  Actually, you’ll eat more of a regular portion.
  3. Don’t hang by the food (particularly in social settings if there is a buffet).  This is another way of "pushing away."

Pretty straightforward.  Practice the "Push Away Diet" for permanent weight loss success.
