If squeezing in enough time to work out is your problem, Christopher Long can relate. Long is a 34-year-old attorney who lives in Manhattan, works about 11 hours a day, and commutes each way. By the time he gets home and eats dinner, it's already 10 p.m., too late to hit the gym. Chris has a gym membership that's going to waste because of his difficult work schedule, although he still manages to play in a competitive soccer league once per week, even if the games are at 10:30 p.m. on a weeknight.
It was a knee injury from soccer that put him on the DL for more than 7 months, forcing him out of shape. He tore his meniscus and had to undergo arthroscopic knee surgery. After the surgery, he was able to get back to soccer and the gym, but "it wasn't enough to overcome the year I sat on the couch resting my knee," Long says.
Chris was poking around MensHealth.com and saw the transformation plan. He signed up thinking it was "like buying a lottery ticket." His hope is to get back into "match fitness" for soccer, which means building greater endurance and being able to perform at a high level over the course of a game. "At 34, I'm the old guy on team that I used to chuckle at," Long says. "I want to be able to keep up with the younger guys." His challenges will be getting to the gym at 6 a.m. to work out, and cleaning up his diet of homemade Italian food.
