Yolking your diet could rein in your appetite. Saint Louis University scientists found that people who eat eggs as part of their breakfast consume fewer calories the rest of the day than those who skip the eggs. In the study, people were given one of two breakfasts: (1) two scrambled eggs, two slices of toast, and a tablespoon of reduced-calorie fruit spread; or (2) a bagel, 2 tablespoons of cream cheese, and 3 ounces of nonfat yogurt.
Even though the breakfasts were equal in calories, the egg eaters consumed 264 fewer calories by the end of the day. The researchers aren't sure why eating eggs appears to reduce hunger and food intake, but they think that the meal's higher protein and fat content may lead to greater satiety.
