SUGAR FREE PUDDINGS & GELATINS
MARCH 27TH, 2012
Even kids agree that puddings and gelatins make for a great tasting snack and/or dessert. Better yet, the sugar-free varieties of both instant pudding and gelatin mixes can be a great part of a healthy diet.
Naturally low in calories, sugar-free products can be a part of any low calorie or low carb diet, are great for those with cardiovascular issues, are easy to digest and, in the case of puddings, a great source of protein and calcium.
When Dr. Malathy Nair’s mother had a heart attack, she noticed that puddings and gelatins were a part of nearly every meal that was served to hospital patients. While the easy to digest nature of these products was an obvious benefit, the medical staff also appreciated the other benefits of these products.
For example, the gelatin ingredient in most gelatin mixes helps improve skin and join health while pudding, particularly powdered mixes made with fresh milk, contain a number of nutrients that are important for recovering patients. Proteins, calcium, vitamin D are key nutritional elements which combine along with dairy’s natural and positive impact on bone health and digestion to make it a super food.
While some shoppers looking for natural and/or organic food products might try to avoid the synthetic colors used in these puddings and gelatins, some product lines from companies like Better Bowls use only natural colors and are even Whole Foods compliant.
A few instant pudding and gelatin mixes are also incorporating nutritional benefits that are high in fiber, gluten-free, meet FDA criteria for a heart healthy diet, provide a good source of protein and generally make for an incredibly healthy snack for children and adults alike.
Sugar-free instant puddings and gelatin mixes, particularly those made with Splenda, are particularly great for diabetics given their low impact on blood sugar levels. In the case of gelatins, they are even fat free, high in fiber a truly healthy snack!
In addition to using natural colors and flavorings, Better Bowls similarly uses the Splenda as its sweetener, with Splenda being viewed as the best of its competitive set. Given their focus on using premium ingredients, it’s a natural fit that they also incorporated adding heart-healthy and diabetic and Atkins friendly benefits such as higher fiber and protein levels.
Finally, to maximize the great taste and healthfulness of pudding and gelatin snacks, don’t forget about adding a little something for flavor. Whether a dollop of fat free whipped cream or a few strawberries filled with antioxidants, customizing your healthy snack has never been easier!
