The cold weather of winter often interrupts your workout routine, causing you to gain weight. What you eat and how you live also add some extra pounds to your body.
Following are some tips that can help you avoid gaining weight in this winter.
1. Don’t skip meals
While keeping weight off is about keeping your metabolism high, skipping meals lowers your metabolism. Therefore, it is important for you to set up an eating schedule and stick to it. You should eat every four hours throughout the day from the time you wake up until the time you go to bed. This way will help you lose weight because it keeps your metabolism revved up. You can eat protein and carbohydrates at each meal such as chicken breast, bread and rice, but remember to avoid fats like fried foods, mayonnaise and whole-fat dairy products.
2. Keep moving
Keeping up with regular exercise is the key to keep weight off in winter. This is the only safe way to increase the basal metabolic rate so that you burn more calories. You can do strength training two to three times a week or simply add 2,000 steps a day to your routine to tone your muscles and shed some pounds. If the chilly weather is not your thing, you can go skiing, snowboarding or snowshoeing.
3. Throw out junk food
Research has shown that you are tempted to eat the food you see. So do a quick search through your house and take all unhealthy snack foods and fattening foods such as candies and cookies away from your sight. While throwing out junk food, you can stack up healthier snacks in your kitchen like fresh fruits to eat.
4. Stop bad habits
There are some habits that can actually make you gain extra pounds. Some of these most common mistakes that lead to weight gain include: skipping breakfast, eating too many simple carbs and not enough protein, not exercising and drinking too much sugary drinks and alcohol. So it is necessary for you to make some simple changes to your lifestyle so that you can avoid gaining weight and stay healthy in this winter.
5. Eat before the party
Parties are always places that are full of different foods and drinks. Unluckily, the more variety of foods available at a meal, the more likely you are to eat more food, according to some studies. To avoid binge eating, you should grab a 100- to 200-calorie snack before you go to the party to fill up your stomach and cause you to eat less. You can eat a bunch of baby carrots, a low-fat yogurt with fruit slices, a banana smeared with peanut butter, a big salad, or an apple, for example, to curb your desire for empty party-food calories.
