It is a herb that has been used as sweetener for centuries. It is great for weight loss as it contains no calories. It is also useful in lowering blood sugar and curbing diabetes. Maintaining healthy stable blood sugar levels alone will set you down a path to a healthy weight.

This natural sweetener can be used in any amount without the bitter taste of other artificial sweeteners. The good thing about stevia is that it can be used in baked and cooked products as the glycosides present in it, do not break down when cooked. You can add the stevia to beverages such as tea and coffee. It is important to note that it cannot be cooked, so only add them after you are done with cooking.  Stevia is available in packets, powder, clear liquid and pure Steviosides. It is found in Indian supermarkets under different brand names. One such brand is So Sweet and the other is Dr Shugar.

The highest reported calorie content of Stevia blends is a single calorie per 1 g packet.
