One of the biggest challenges while trying to lose weight is fighting against those intense food cravings and controlling your appetite. Many people trying to lose weight often see little or no results despite going to the gym because of their uncontrolled eating habits. However, don’t lose hope yet! There are ways you can keep cravings and frequent hunger pangs at bay. Various studies have found that acupuncture is an effective way to lose weight faster along with the usual routine of dieting and exercising.
In one such study that was published in the Scientific World Journal in 2012, Iranian researchers found that acupuncture can be effective in controlling obesity and aiding in weight loss, if it is done along with following a 1000 kcal per day restriction [1]. Around 196 obese or overweight patients between the ages of 18-55 years participated in this study. The participants were asked to follow a wash out diet for a period of two weeks followed by a low-calories diet for six weeks. They were then simultaneously given acupuncture treatment on their abdomen and lower legs. Each acupuncture treatment lasted for 20 minutes and was given twice a week for around six weeks. This was done by a specialized acupuncturist. While they didn’t receive any acupuncture treatment for the next six weeks, they were asked to continue with their restricted diet of 1000 k/calories per day. These are the 10 facts about acupuncture you should know about.
How acupuncture helps
After this period of 12 weeks, it was found that there were significant changes in the participants’ body weight. Before you opt for acupuncture to lose weight, do your research and go for a trusted and well-experienced acupuncturist and remember that only going for acupuncture won’t help you in losing weight without keeping your diet under check. Here’s what to expect when you go for acupuncture treatment. Other than acupuncture, you could also try acupressure at home on your own to beat food cravings.
