Why Weight Loss?

If the header makes you wonder, read on - it should make you wonder - I think we are going to touch some important points about weight loss and our motives very soon.

So once again; why weight loss?

Have you ever asked yourself that question? Of course it's in a way obvious why anyone wants to lose weight, but deep down and on the surface - if we take a closer look - might lay something that lets us understand the whole problem much better.

I actually think it's a fair and a good question to ask; if you feel you must lose weight, there is a reason for it, and the reason is not only that you feel or are overweighed. It can be much more!

Something has brought you to this point. Somehow you have lived your life and made your choices and now you find yourself in a position where you should lose weight. At this point your system might already be on autopilot. You might have developed some desires that are very hard to change. Your system has its own natural way of living and going about things - coping with all the stress and negativity from other people and in this world etc. By now your ship has a steady course and it could be hard to change - you might feel it's impossible - you might feel you need help from outside.

I'm not here to convict you; I'm here to help you see more clearly. But the above could easily make you feel like I'm just stating some obvious facts about weight loss. This is not the case. What I want to do is provide you with a map, a map that helps you see where you have come from and where your destination is, and also what you need for this journey.

What you need above all is a clear mind, strong motivation and willpower.

Remember the ship analog? If you are a ship, your willpower is the rudder. Your ship might have a steady course but your motivation is going to change that course, and then one day you are sailing on completely different waters. Beautiful waters! Good waters - so good the previous experiences seem like distant dreams or nightmares.

But right now you have a conflict.

Because you see clearly that your ship is heading the wrong way and you feel it's so hard to turn the rudder - you might feel you want to let go, why fight, I will lose the weight loss battle anyway - like always before

If you feel like this, it's probably because you are trying to turn the rudder too fast and too suddenly.

It doesn't work that way. The habits we have, are developed during many years, the emotional side is very deep and complicated, and we can't just change that in one moment, no matter how strong our will is.

We need to go gently and lovingly. It's very important to love ourselves - our system - and understand that it takes time to change, because it took time to get here in the first place - weight gain takes time, weight loss takes time. It's ok to make mistakes. From mistakes we learn, but it's not ok to be too hard and demanding on yourself. You will just make things worse.

The ship analog is good in a sense that if you imagine a big ship and it must turn around - it takes lots of space first of all to maneuver - and that space might just not be available at the moment, we have to wait and sail for deeper waters to do it - also it's very easy to understand that it has to turn slowly - the ship is big, you can't just change the course using the rudder in few seconds - something would break and it's also physically impossible.

Losing weight is possible. Losing weight is going to happen, but we have to understand what we are dealing with and go one step at the time. We have to have determination and above all patience. It's a matter of changing our habits and think along new lines, we are the creators of these new lines, so let's make them as good as possible. Let's not force ourselves, let us be loving and kind to ourselves, because if we do, we are going to feel good and we have lesser excuses for overeating and over reacting - we will stay balanced and our ship will turn.
