I was overweight all my life. People used to taunt and tease me because of my obesity. My social life was a mess. This made me avoid going out and meet people. As I used to work from home, this made my situation even worse. I would spend whole days inside the home and rarely ventured out. The only time I went out was to replenish the food stocks. That's it! The result was that I was depressed. I sought comfort in food. I was always a food lover and my isolation made me eat even more. I cared little about my health or looks. I just kept on eating. I was seriously overweight. One day I went to my parent's home for a weekend and they made me realize that I was ruining my Health and wasting the best years of my life. I could not see my mom's distress and I vowed to control my weight. And thus began my journey. Though, the story itself will be covered in other articles, here are few food items that helped me immensely.
Apple: An apple has an average of 95 calories and is power packed. It has vitamins and is rich in fiber. I ate a lot. They are filling and you cannot really go wrong with it. Just a word of caution. Wash and scrub it properly to remove any wax and chemicals from its peel.
Soup: Vegetable and chicken soup aided me in my diet control. Eating soup before meal made me eat lot less. Soup has all the benefits of a meal but loss calories.
Eggs: Eggs are most nutrient rich food available. It has complete high quality proteins, all 9 essential amino acids, apart from other nutrients like choline, lutein and zeaxanthin. These nutrients are essential for eyes, brain, nervous system, and cardiovascular system.
Mushrooms: Mushrooms are nutritious and satisfies hunger pangs. Not to mention that they are tasty addition to any meal.
Almonds: Most beneficial of all nuts. It has almost a legendary status in Indian Health system. It is packed with vitamins and protein. Soak it overnight and you can eat as snack whenever you get hunger pangs. I replaced all of my unhealthy snacks with nuts like almond and felt energized throughout the day.
Oatmeal: Oatmeal for breakfast is a perfect start to the day. I preferred homemade oatmeal and didn't use too much sugar. Eaten with milk it provided me lot of energy, fiber and protein to carry on with a hectic day. Healthy alternative to sweetened and packaged cereals and cornflakes.
Hot Chilly Peppers: I also included hot chilly pepper with my food. Pepper not only made me feel less hungry but also increased my sluggish metabolism. Increased metabolism made my body burn off more calories. Not only was I able to control my eight but also t good amount of weight.
Though, there are many other food items that I incorporated in my diet plan, these were the top items. Feel free to experiment with more foods and see what suits you best.
