How to Cut an Avocado Safely

Cutting an avocado can be a bit intimidating, especially if you're not used to it. But with a little practice, you'll be able to slice and dice your avocado like a pro! Here are some tips:

Tools you will need:

- A sharp knife

- A cutting board

- A spoon

Step 1: Remove the stem

- Place the avocado on a cutting board.

- Hold the avocado in the palm of your hand and gently insert a sharp knife into the stem.

- Twist the knife to remove the stem. Be careful not to cut yourself!

Step 2: Halve the avocado

- Place the avocado on a cutting board, with the cut side down.

- Using a sharp knife, slice the avocado in half lengthwise, around the pit.

- Be careful not to cut through the pit! Gently twist the two halves of the avocado to separate them.

Step 3: Remove the pit

- Hold one half of the avocado in your hand, with the cut side facing up.

- Gently tap the pit with the handle of a spoon.

- The pit should pop out easily.

- If the pit doesn't pop out, you can use a spoon to scoop it out. Be careful not to damage the avocado flesh!

Step 4: Slice or dice the avocado

- To slice the avocado, hold the half with the skin side down and use a sharp knife to make thin slices.

- To dice the avocado, hold the half with the skin side down and make small diagonal cuts in one direction, then repeat in the opposite direction.

- Be careful not to cut the skin!

Step 5: Enjoy!
