There are endless varieties of diet plans in the world today. There are certain diet plans that allow only selected foodstuff for the prescribed period. The vegetable juice diet is one such diet. It is more or less a fad diet because only fruits and vegetables are allowed in the plan.

The diet is meant for weight loss and detox. Only fresh fruits and vegetables are allowed in the diet plan. You should not consume any solid, processed, or fast food. There are several health benefits associated with this diet. Firstly, as you consume only fresh vegetables and fruits, you get all the essential nutrients (vitamins and minerals) from the diet. Secondly, vegetables contain fiber which helps in making the stomach quickly feel fuller. Vegetable juice also acts as a appetite suppressant. Therefore, this diet is claimed to be healthy.
Vegetable Juice Recipes
One of the advantages of following this diet is that, as there are a large number of vegetables available in the market, you have a wide choice to make juices from. You can simply pick any fresh vegetable, wash, blend it in a food processor, add some spices, and have it fresh!
Tomato Juice
Ingredients:
- 3 cups of chopped tomatoes
- 1 sliced cucumber
- 1 stalk of celery
- ½ teaspoon of sea salt
- ¼ teaspoon of freshly ground pepper
Method of Preparation:
- Blend tomatoes, cucumber, and celery in your food processor.
- Add sea salt and stir. Top with freshly ground pepper and have immediately.
Mix Green Vegetable Juice
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of spinach
- 2 cups of kale
- 2 cups of parsley
- 1 sliced cucumber
- 2 stalks of celery
- 1-2 cloves of garlic/1-2 slices of ginger (optional)
Method of Preparation:
- Wash all the vegetables and blend them in a food processor.
- The optional garlic/ginger should also be put in the food processor along with the vegetables.
- Blend until smooth. Serve fresh.
Carrot and Beet Juice
Ingredients:
- 3 sliced carrots
- 1 sliced beet
- ½ lemon
- 1-2 small slices of ginger
- 1-2 cloves of garlic
Method of Preparation:
- Mix carrots, beet, ginger, and garlic in the food processor and juice.
- Squeeze half lemon on the top just before serving. Stir and serve!
It is advised to eat as many raw vegetables as possible in order to gain all the essential nutrients. The more you cook the vegetable, lesser the nutrients remain in it. You can try different vegetable juices every day to avoid monotony, and even experiment with different herbs to create new concoctions for your diet plan.
This diet is not meant for those suffering from chronic illness, or those who have recently undergone a surgery, or pregnant women. It is also advised to consult the doctor before going for this diet as one may suffer from potential side effects like headache, abdominal discomfort, diarrhea, etc., in the initial stages of this diet. The diet is also meant only for adults and should be followed under the supervision of a doctor or a nutritionist.
Although associated with some side effects and termed as a fad diet, it is relatively healthy as vegetables are healthy and contain beneficial nutrients. However, it is not meant for prolonged use as it lacks in proteins and carbohydrates. Therefore, if you are looking for a short-term diet for a quick weight loss, you can consider going for it.
