History:
The Ragamuffin is a crossbreed between the Ragdoll and the Persian. It was developed by breeder Ann Baker in the 1990s. Baker wanted to create a cat with the Ragdoll's laid-back personality and the Persian's luxurious coat.
Physical Characteristics:
Ragamuffins are typically medium to large cats and have a semi-long, plush coat. They come in various colors and patterns, including solid, bicolor, calico, and tabby. Their eyes are usually blue, green, or amber.
Personality:
Ragamuffins are renowned for their gentle and friendly disposition. They are incredibly affectionate and thrive on human interaction. Ragamuffins are also very intelligent and curious, often following their owners around and observing their activities.
Temperament:
Ragamuffins have a calm and easy-going temperament. They are not known to be particularly active or vocal. This makes them excellent pets for families with young children or other pets.
Grooming:
The Ragamuffin's thick coat requires regular brushing. This helps prevent mats and tangles and keeps their coat in its best condition. Additionally, regular nail trims and ear cleaning are recommended.
Health:
Ragamuffins are generally healthy cats. However, they are prone to certain health issues such as hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a heart condition) and polycystic kidney disease. Regular check-ups with the veterinarian are recommended.
Lifespan:
Ragamuffins have an average lifespan of 12 to 15 years. With proper care and attention, some Ragamuffins have even been known to live for up to 20 years.
If you are looking for a gentle and affectionate cat with a luxurious coat, the Ragamuffin might be the perfect breed for you. With their friendly personality and easy maintenance, they make excellent companion pets for families of all types.
