Generally, a cup of hot chocolate made with milk and a single-serve packet of hot chocolate mix contains around 5 to 10 milligrams of caffeine. This amount of caffeine is much less than the amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee (which can range from 80 to 135 milligrams) or a cup of tea (which can range from 20 to 70 milligrams).
If you are sensitive to caffeine or are trying to avoid caffeine for any reason, you can make a lower-caffeine version of hot chocolate by using decaf chocolate or by adding less hot chocolate mix to your drink. You can also make hot chocolate with white chocolate, as white chocolate contains no caffeine.
