Drinking tea contributes to your body's total fluid intake. This misconception stems from the widely used term 'diuretic effect', which leads people to believe that drinking tea (or coffee) will mean more trips to the loo, hence losing more water than we consumed. However, this is not entirely true.
What diuretics do is, increase urine output as the kidneys process the excess amounts. This would only occur if you drink so much tea that you overload your kidneys' ability to process the influx.
So unless you're downing more than 5 cups of tea (or coffee) in one sitting, you're unlikely to suffer dehydration from drinking tea.
