How Much Caffeine Is in Green Tea?

Green tea leaves contain around 3% of caffeine. Hence, on an average, a cup of green tea (240 ml) steeps around 30-50 mg of caffeine, which is a quarter of the amount found in a cup of coffee (100-200 mg).

Additionally, matcha green tea, prepared from finely powdered dried green tea leaves, has approximately three times more caffeine per gram compared to regularly steeped green tea. So, on an average, an 8-ounce cup of matcha green tea can provide around 70 mg of caffeine.
