CARBQUIK CHEDDAR BAY BISCUITS
2 cups Carbquik
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 cup cold butter, cut in small pieces
2 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
1/4 cup heavy cream
1/4 cup water
Toss the Carbquik with the garlic powder. Cut in the cold butter with a pastry blender until it looks like coarse meal. Add the cheese. Very briefly and gently stir in the liquid just until the dough comes together. Do not overwork the dough. Drop by large mounded spoonfuls onto a lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450?10-12 minutes until golden brown.
These are best reheated in the oven or a toaster oven. I reheated mine in the toaster oven at about 300?for 4-5 minutes.
Makes 12 biscuits

After my disappointment with the taste of several Carbquik recipes, I thought these were very good. I think I added enough garlic powder to mask the taste of the Carbquik. The texture reminds me quite a bit of Popeye's biscuits the way they used to make them. I've only eaten Red Lobster's Cheddar Bay Biscuits once and they weren't as good as these. I don't remember them having much flavor at all and they were quite dry. The Carbquik makes these a little salty, so if you have unsalted butter, I recommend using it for these. The salt wasn't overpowering, but they'd be better with less. Also, the recipe said it would make 10 biscuits and I easily got 12 very large ones. This recipe started out as the one found on the Carbquik box but I've tweaked it a bit with recommendations from someone online to add more butter and omit the salt. I also increased the amount of garlic powder.
