Are Eggs Considered a Dairy Product?

Dairy products are defined as foods manufactured from the milk of mammals, particularly milk from cows, sheep, or goats. Common dairy products include milk, yogurt, cheese, butter, and ice cream.

Eggs, however, come from birds, not mammals. They are laid by female chickens and several other bird species. Therefore, eggs are not dairy products. They belong to the category of animal-based foods known as poultry or avian products.

Dairy vs. Poultry Products

Dairy products are classified as animal products but are distinct from poultry products. While milk and other dairy items come from mammals, poultry products are derived from birds, like chickens, turkeys, ducks, and geese.

In summary, eggs are not dairy products. They are a separate category of animal food known as poultry products.
