QuestionHello!
I want to ask about cleansing the body:
what food specifically in the raw paleo diet is cleansing the body from some "dirt" or hardened matter that causes auto-intoxication?
I'm interested particularly in organs that are said to be body's detox organs like: colon (stimulating bowel movement, flushing out the old fecal matter and what not), liver, kidneys, and, besides that - also cleansing body as a whole.
I've read about fat having cleansing (and some bowel-stimulating) properties but to what extent exactly does it clean out organs and the body - this I don't know.
I've read also about fruits - for colon and liver, and also about plain water.
Could you elaborate on that?
How about drinking some acidic drink like lemon juice/apple cider vinegar and consuming some artificial unsoluble fiber like psyllium husk with it, to evacuate toxins? Could it be a good idea to do this in order to cleanse the body?
Thank you.
AnswerHi,
Some people cite healthy raw animal fats in general as being detoxifying. Colon-cleansing enemas and using fibre etc. to cleanse out the bowels is only useful if one is eating a toxin-filled cooked diet.As regards fats, I have no idea re the exact biochemistry but I am told that it helps lubricate the various parts of the body, and reducing inflammation. Inflammation is the key result of eating cooked, processed diets.
Re fruits. I would avoid using them too much as they are far higher in sugar than their natural, wild counterparts. Avoid drinking distilled water at all costs. If the tapwater you drink is recycled beforehand through human bladders, then I would suggets that you switch to buying only high alkaline mineral-water from natural springs(ie PH value of 7.6 and above -imo, 8.4 PH is best).
Don't bother worrying about cleansing the body. Raw foods do cleanse the body over time without the negative effects of cleansing regimes found in cooked, processed diets. However, some people who switch to RVAF diets want to avoid the usual detoxing effects that happen as the body starts getting only healthy raw foods and finally can start expelling the toxins built up from decades of eating cooked foods, so they start doing long-term water-fasts, some as long as 20 days. I would advise, however, not to go to that extreme unless supervised by a doctor constantly. Just do a few days with just drinking water and then switch to a rawpalaeo diet.HTH, RPG.
