QuestionWhich foods are rich in iron and low in potassium
Thank You
Jorge
AnswerHi Jorge. I am going to try to give you enough options that you find something you like. Unprocessed (no added salt, breading, etc) meats are high in iron and are considered low in potassium as long as proper serving sizes are eaten (2-4oz per meal is acceptable). However, meat is high in phosphorus, which may be a concern if you are having kidney problems. Eggs are also low in potassium, but you should eat no more than 5 per week if you have a history, or family history, of high cholesterol. Vegetarian sources of iron include iron-fortified, rice or corn based, processed cereals, such as puffed rice or corn flakes. Berries, especially blackberries and raspberries, are also good sources of iron and if you stick to 1 cup servings berries are considered low potassium. Berries are also high in fiber, which can be hard to get enough of on a low potassium diet. If you don't like any of those foods, you may want to talk to your doctor about an iron supplement. Hope that helps!
