QuestionI went to a vegetarian cooking class and the naturopath said that it's wrong to mix fruits with vegetables during meals. She said because fruits have higher sugar content the meal will ferment in my stomach and it would be useless to be vegan if I do that.
Is this true?
AnswerI've never heard of this concept. But let's think about it. OK, fruits definitely have higher carbohydrate content. But for it to be "fermented," there already must be ferments in your gastro-intestinal tract. So what sugar does, is feeding that microbes that produce ferments and perhaps encourage them to multiply.
Is it good for you or bad? From what I know, those friendly bacteria are good indeed. Even if you consider them "animals" - you don't kill them and in fact you don't eat them, you just live together to each other advantage :)
I 'll be happy to continue this discussion and promise to do more research if needed :)
