Question... and how can i benefit from learning about it?
AnswerDear Kathy,
I know of ketogenic *ratio*
Here's how it's being calculated:
Ketogenic 0.9(fat) + 0.46(pro)
--------- = ----------------------
Anti-ketogenic 1.0(carb) + 0.1 (fat) + .58(pro)
Where fat is fat grams in a food or meal, pro is proteing grams, and carb is carbohydrate grams.
Every one of the three nutrients influences differently on the state of ketosis making it more or less possible (or impossible if there all carbohydrates in your food)
For treatment of childhood epilepsy, the ratio is 1:3 pr even 1:4 but theoretically, even 1:2 works toward some level of ketosis, even 1:1,5!
When we designed our Banta diet (bantadiet.com) we simplified the use of ketogenic ratio and introduced the Fat Burning *Index* (you might be mening this one in your question) - which is 1:(ketogenic ratio) so we are talking about indexes like 2 instead of 2:1; etc.
Hope it helps. BTW, our program is free starting this year and can be accessed without a password at:
