Hi..Im not sure if you would be able to answer this, but I thought I would give it a shot. I sincerely hope I am not wasting your time.
My doctor prescribed Phentermine for weight loss. She explained that it was a "short term use" drug that looses it's effect within a few weeks.
I lost close to 20 lbs in 2 months while using this drug, however it did lose it's effect.
I was wondering if I would be able to use this drug again after X amount of time of being off of it. Will it work again if I am off of it for a month or so? I still have 4 refills left but decided not to fill them because they were no longer working.
Please advise. Thank you very much for taking the time to read my question.

Answer -
Dear Mary,

There are limited safety data for phentermine so its medical approval for the body weight and appetite management is limited to only short-term use. This reason rather than phentermine efficacy usualy cause doctors advise against using it for a long time.

Phentermine side-effects include but are not limited to: severe headaches, one each hypertension, depressive symptoms, irritability, breathlessness and heart palpitations.

It's a good idea to discuss your phentermine use with a physician even if you are happy with its results and don't experience these side effects.

Hope it helps,

TZ

Dear TZ,
Thank you for replying to my email.
According to my doctor, Phentermine looses it's effect after a few weeks, where it doesn not curb my appetite anymore, which is exactly what happened.
My physician was and is aware of the side effects, and was especially cautious prescribing the medication to me because I have a history of high blood pressure, which I am on medicine for.
For the length of time I was on Phentermine, I was scheduled to see my doctor once a month for check ups and of course to see how the drug interfeered with my hypertension. In conjunction with my blood pressure medication and taking the Phentermine, my blood pressure was actually far better while taking the Phentermine than it was before. The weight loss itself improved my hypertension.
My question was, if by chance you would happen to know that since the appetine control weened, and by my stopping taking the drug because it was not doing what it was supposed to anymore, that if I were to give myself a "break" from it for however long, a month or so maybe, if by starting it again after not being on it for a period of a month or so, would it actualyl work again and curb my appetite like it did when I first started taking it.
Thanks again, and I hope Im not bothering you.
Mary

Answer
Hi Mary,

Weaning from any drug is a hard time for the most of people. Appetite-control medication is no exception. Many dieters reported increased appetite and weight gain after they quit diet pills. So the "break" will probably have this effect first, and after that, depending on your break length, it may or may not resume its action.

If you decide to go for the break, you'll have to watch your weight using other method(s). If you succeed, might it be a better way to control your health condition? I'm afraid, one cant tell without trying. If you would like me to give your concrete suggestions, you might want to follow up again or contact me directly at dietandbody.com/mfeedback.html
