Vomiting

Question
I'm on my 4th week of Weight Watchers and have been eating low fat things.... tonight I had 17 pst left so I thought I'd treat myself to  dbl cheeseberger and sm fries from McDs.  almost 2 hours after eating I began to feel violently nauseous.  I  threw up everything all the way to bile and beyond...... I mean like when I had food poisoning 2 yrs ago.  Was it my body not being used to it? OR the past 3 nights I've been training @ my new job in a deli..... salm or ecoli from there? (no I didn't wash my hands when I got home....)

HELP!

Answer
Amanda first realize that our body can react to bacteria in different ways. It is not always an immediate response so you can not always assume it was the last thing you ate (with the exception of food poisoning - at which time we overwhelm our body's struggle to keep us healthy). Your comment about not washing your hands may well have contributed to your vomiting, as well as the possibility of being exposed at work. Your body's defenses against are varied and are usually adequate - up to a point. That is where the Large amount of fat you ate may have been "more than you could handle".
I hope that the Weight Watchers program suggests a balanced diet that includes Some fat. We need to have no more than 30% of our daily intake to be fat and limiting yourself just a nibble or two of fats or oils will set you up for additional problems. The oils/fats are needed for lubricating our joints, immediately available source of energy (when someone or something says "Boo" - your response is to get the "heck out of Dodge" and fats let us do that.)
As I mentioned before our bodies use many different defenses long before we get to the point of vomiting so I would think this was a rare occurance that can be prevented in the future with hand washing and a return to moderation - "too much of Anything can harm us"
The only other advice I would offer is to review your diet to make sure it is in "balance" & take a daily multivitamin. If we give our bodys the best tools to help defend against the bacteria, I doubt if you will have this happen anytime soon - even if you treat yourself to another double cheeseburger. Perhaps the other tool you have given yourself is the memory of the bile in your throat and mouth - that will cause you to be more cautiuos in the future. It is with these ideas and the memory of the event that will help you slow down and enjoy each bite of food. Yep - back to what Mom told us growing up - "chew your food slowly - chew, chew, chew and drink lots of water". It was true then, as it is now!
