QuestionSince you are in the UK, I was hoping that you or some friends of yours may know of what was the official cause of death of this gentlemen. Since as I found it here, it is only alluded to as being high raw meat.
Also are you aware of any other premature deaths on the raw meat, Paleo, and Raw Vegan diets? I already know about the little girl who died on raw vegan in Miami last year btw. Thanks in advance and keep sharing, I find your archived articles informative.
Find the Death notice post below. If it doesn't come up, you can google-it by typing in" john babafemi death meat" Please email me your response too, since I'm not on the net much.

It is with great sadness I report the death of Jonathan Cole a.k.a "Femi". (12 April 1960 - 16th February 2005). Although I heard rumour of this a few weeks ago, I thought it was a silly joke. I attended his memorial gathering today for which I am grateful to the other friends for remembering him so well, and bringing the memory of his warm soul back for me.
I know some of you raw people will know Jonathan if you came to the UK. He was very active in promoting raw diet, held several events and regularly worked a chain of juice bars. A few years ago we collaborated on a number of events where I spoke about the raw food diet. He was a kind and very humble man who was always open to new ideas and had terrific energy in persuing his goal of making the world a better place.
His friends report that he became very ill after consuming aged raw meat, which he had read would help him to have more energy. This was a surprise to me as Jonathan was very much a raw vegan and well read on TC Fry and Shelton when I met him years ago.
R.I.P. kind soul
John

AnswerI heard about this a while back as the original e-mail was posted onto a rawpalaeodiet yahoo group. I will be perfectly honest and state why I find the whole issue highly dubious.
First of all, I used to be a Raw Vegan, then a Fruitarian, prior to going rawpalaeo, and I was appalled, at the time, by the large number of false propaganda reports issued by Raw Vegans claiming all sorts of rubbish about meat etc.. (I'd never been a vegan for political reasons, but solely because my system couldn't handle any cooked animal food at the time without my suffering severe stomach-cramps).
The fact that the report comes directly from a vegetarian source, and didn't come from a non-Vegan source in any way, makes me highly doubt the veracity of the report - there's very little info on the Net, which is most unusual. It wouldn't surprise me that it was mere propaganda, as many rawpalaeodieters are former Raw Vegans/Fruitarians who did very badly under those former diets, like myself, and this might be aimed at such people, in order to needlessly scare them.
Also, even if we are to assume that it's valid, there are so many different aspects to consider. I've spoken to many former Raw Vegans/Fruitarians who did those former diets for much longer than I have, and they all reported initial health improvements, only to deteriorate drastically healthwise after a year or so. The result is that such long-term deterioration in health as a result of Raw Veganism could easily have weakened this man to the point where even a last-minute switch to a raw-meat diet couldn't save him in time.
However, what clinches it for me is the fact that the vast majority of rawpalaeodieters whose messages I read online and who consume aged rotting meat(high meat) report having no problems with it (usually experiencing a certain euphoria and increased energy-levels instead). The only ones who object to it, tend to complain(somewhat understandably) about the taste of it - occasionally it's true that a few people have reported (initially) significant insomnia due to the increased energy-levels from eating high-meat, but that's about it - nothing worse than that.
I won't deny that a rawpalaeo diet can lead to health problems if not carried out correctly - many RPDers eat raw foods which are harmful to them on an allergenic level, for example, such as raw dairy, but the biggest scares on RPD diets, namely bacteria/parasites/aged raw meat are way overhyped, given mine and many others' experiences.
Hope This Helps,
Geoff
