QuestionI am in a fitness challenge with some firemen and police officers in my hometown. I was weighed in on Sep. 5th with a body fat of 24 %. Being 5'11 and 190 lbs , I thought that was kind of high . Although I have yet to lose a substantial amount of weight, only 2-3 lbs, I feel great and my pants are getting really loose. We were using the kind of machine that you stand on and it uses an electrical current I think. I want to know how to get the optimal reading on Dec. 5th when we weigh out. Should I drink a lot of water the morning before, should I fast, what should I do. Let me know, I need help!
AnswerHello Mark,
You can reduce your body fat % by dieting and exercising but not by drinking water. Fasting can help, but you'll probably feel sluggish. Since you have time, I'd suggest that you don't reduce calorie intake but rather change the kind of food you mostly eat. Try eating more good fats (oils, fatty cold-water fish, nuts and seeds) and less refined carbohydrates like white bread, pastry, sweets, etc.
You might want to watch your progress with our fat % calculator requiring only measuring type (no gadgets) -- it's free to download from:

Good luck!
