Dry skin

Question
Hi, I have been eating raw paleodiet food on and off for a while now, (like 3 years). For the past month, I am eating only raw food (half a pound of bison liver a day, sometime quarter pound of muscle meat bison, raw bone marrow almost everyday, about half to one pound of halibut a week, around 12 eggs a day, 1.5 liters of raw milk, 2 to 3 fruit a day, few tablespoon of coconut oil press below 100 farenheit and sometime vegetables like carrots, cucumbers, tomatoes ect..)

Althought I am eating enough fat (over 200 gram a day) and vitamins and minerals, I have developp dry skin on the side of my fingers, Knuckles, face and have dandruff.

I am aware that the body will detox of old skin and other stuff when given the chance! Can you tell me what you think with some suggestions please. I know that you are not really for raw milk, I have read all of your post on this site but I seem to do find with it. I was born on a farm and use to drink milk and eat butter all the time. I come from a family of farmers for a few past generations.

Thanks for your suggestions,

Carl

Answer
Well, I would still recommend cutting out the raw dairy from the diet for quite a while just to see if there's any improvement in your skin condition. It's just that I  keep on being told by various rawpalaeodieters, every now and then,  that they're fine with raw dairy, only for them to tell me,a couple of years later, that they've eventually  encountered some problems. What really confirmed my suspicions re raw dairy  was the revelation, a year ago,  on a Yahoo group, focusing primarily  on the Primal diet, that many long-term Primal dieters(who'd previously
claimed to be fine with raw dairy) were resorting to various mineral supplements(usually magnesium) to take care of things like a tendency for  muscle-cramps(interestingly,
dairy is cited by Palaeo-researchers as being responsible for blocking  uptake of magnesium and copper, and magnesium deficiency is linked to muscle-cramps). The other reason why I mention raw dairy, is that dry skin was one of the many symptoms I got when I drank the stuff in the past.

Now, of course, dry skin can be due to many other possible causes. The standard literature cites a lack of vitamin A or  B vitamins, as a cause. Since you're eating so much raw
liver, I'd assume that lack of vitamin A is not an issue.

One other thing I noticed on this diet, over time,  was that animal fats from raw tongue, bone-marrow, brain and suet were a lot more effective than fats from dairy, eggs and vegetable fats like avocado. Certainly whenever I had a small amount or more of dairy, or large amounts of eggs, coconut or avocado, I would frequently suffer problems such as dry skin or fatigue or diarrhea. So it might be an idea to eat a lot more marrow and much less dairy, eggs and coconut oil. You might also consider reducing the amount of raw food you eat, overall, just to see if that helps.
