QuestionTanya
I have been low carbing fairly strictly since Xmas.
Yes I have lost a couple of pounds, but I have noticed a couple other things that might be related to low carb intake.
First one is a feeling of constant tiredness-almost like I have a virus. Its tough getting through the day but even tougher doing my weight and cardio routine.
Secondly,I havent made any gains with my weight and cardio routine. In fact I am lifting less.
Sometimes on the weekend I will go off the diet and have some chips, white bread, mashed potatoes, etc.
On Monday I have energy and my workout is good, but then I get run down again.
Is this a common symptom with low carb? I am thinking I should go back to carbs but still watch fat, calories, junk food, etc.
AnswerDear Barry,
Most low carb dieters report energy increase after about a week on the diet (see 'suggested reading' below) -- but strength training/muscle building requires a very precise curb-up planning. Your Monday energy improvement is a proof, in your case. The best practical manual I'm aware of is that of Lyle McDonald's "Two modified ketogenic diets that include carbohydrates to support high intensity training..."
