QuestionI've just started going raw. I've had green stool since I've started(5 days). Could that be from the high amount of fat(60-70%)? I don't feel bad, in fact I'm more alert since I started eating one large meal per day. I started doing this at the same time as going raw. Do you think some cultured foods could help resolve this? Thanks for your thoughts.
AnswerThe "green stool" experience seems to be quite common while transitioning to a raw diet, according to reports - I experienced it too, having extensive green diarrhea for the first 2-3 days of going fully raw. The usual explanation is that it's a detox, since it's mostly short-term in effect, where the body finally manages to get unclogged and able to get rid of various chemicals it's absorbed over the years from cooked-/processed foods. Some people recommend doing a liver-flush to help things along a bit faster. I would definitely recommend eating some edible clay in water(French Green Clay is the most recommended, with bentonite clay being usually frowned upon) - clay is regularly used by certain species of wild animals to deal with the toxins absorbed from eating certain plant species etc.
It's also been suggested by other RPDers that it's a good idea to use some enzyme supplements, especially during times when you're having the occasional cooked-meal. I never got around to doing this, but it sounds like a good idea to rebuild the body's store of enzymes after years of eating cooked-foods.
I would also highly recommend adding some extra bacteria via eating fermented foods, in order to help with the digestion, among other things. I only started using Aajonus's recommended "high-meat" after 3 years on this diet, and I rather wish I'd used it earlier. The effect of "high-meat" is absolutely amazing - if you eat a high enough amount of it at one time(in my case a mouthful or two), sometime later you get an amazing feeling of well-being and boost in /alertness/concentration/energy-levels - it usually takes me a full 24 hours to experience this effect, for some reason. "High-meat" is basically just aged-meat that's been put into a sealed container in the fridge(at not too cold a temperature) and aired outside once every day in order to replenish oxygen levels for the bacteria. Some people, in order to speed things up, just leave the container outside the house, but there can be problems with flies laying larvae around the upper lid, which can drop into the meat if you're not careful.(There are a number of previous answers I gave re "high-meat" preparation etc., in the "past answers" archives on my www.allexperts.com page.
Like many of those new to raw diets, you may find it a bit difficult to get fully used to raw, fresh meat, let alone "high-meat", in which case you might initially prefer a different, easier alternative to "high-meat", namely "EM" products.
