raw thymus

Question
Hi,

I have Hepatitis C and have been unresponsive to traditional treatment.  I am starting to learn about alternative therapies and am interested in adding thymus to my diet.  It is very, very, expensive to buy through the alternative healing sites.  This might sound stupid, but is it safe to get thymus from a cow farmer if I could?  I was thinking if I could find one it might make it affordable.  Do you have any other ideas of how to find it and if it would be safe raw?

Thank you so much,
Alyn

Answer
Thymus should always be bought direct from farmers. Most people selling thymus from alterantive-health sites will invariably sell it only in powdered form or processed in some other way. And, as it's so small, cooking it would render it almost useless re lowering nutrient-levels etc. - best to get it raw from a farmer - it's perfectly safe as long as you get it from  organic/grassfed-meat farmers. There are some nonorganic farmers who raise healthy animals but who can't afford to convert to organic, but these are in a minority, with most nonorganic farmers using intensive-farming methods such as hormones which ruin the health of their animals - I should mention, at this stage, that Aajonus Vonderplanitz, the raw-food guru, has stated that toxins tend to collect in the organ-meats more, so that organ-meats, such as thymus,  from nonorganic animals are to be avoided, according to him).

There are several ways to locate farms which might sell organ-meats. One is to search  on the Web for any of the various online organic/grassfed meat-directories in your country, and then search by your region/State etc. A good US site is www.eatwild.com, a UK list of suitable farms is found here:-

Once you've found a list of farms, just call them up and ask if they provide thymus(a lot of farms stupidly don't sell any organ-meats) - sometimes "thymus" is known under another name - for instance, in the UK thymus and pancreas is called, together, "sweetbreads" - I don't know the US term for thymus, if there is any.

Ordering online this way means adding extra delivery-charge-costs but these usually stay the same, regardless of how much you order(at least that's my experience in the UK, anyway).

Another option is farmer's markets. These are a pretty good option in the UK, especially London, as there are various semi-organic farmer's markets in the capital. You should first visit the various stalls and get the relevant phone-numbers before making an order - you can then arrange by phone  to pick up your food-order when the market opens next time. I should add that this option is not as good in the US, as I've been told that most farmers' markets over there just sell fruit/veg and are only seasonal, rather than being held throughout the year.

I don't know about US prices, but on those occasions I've been able to get hold of thymus in the UK, it's been very cheap.
