QuestionHi,
I am female and I lift weights 5 days a week. I have built up quite a bit of muscle in doing so but now I want to get lean. I am not overweight at all.
I've embarked on a low carb, high protein eating plan and eat very lean foods like tuna, chicken, fruit & veggies etc. I do not allow myself to go hungry & I eat every 3-4 hours as I don't want to loose any muscle. I do eat carbs but 'good' carbs and very small amounts.
I read recently that high protein & low carb diets causes muscle to break down.
Is this right? I've been doing it over a week now and noticed my tummy area is getting firmer which is brilliant but now I'm worried I'm going to loose all the muscle that I worked so hard on gaining.
I am still doing my vigorous strength training routine as well.
Please advise...
Thanks,
AnswerHi Rachel,
As you are including good carbohydrates into your diet, as long as approx 25-35% of your daily intake is carbohydrates this is just fine. Our bodies need carbohydrates to function properly as well as build muscle. It sounds to me like you are balancing this just fine. I always recommend to talk to your doctor as well.
Good Luck,
Lea
