QuestionHello, I am 37 years old and stand at 5 ft 10 and currently weigh 327 pounds. I used to have high blood pressure but do not any more. I used to weigh 390 pounds two years ago but then started cutting back and lost 30 pounds over the last two years and have started the atkins diet and lost yet another 30 pounds. Im trying to get down to 250 pounds before I go to Phase 2 from Induction.
I have been eating lots of protein which consist of 3 boiled eggs in the morning usually and 3 strips of bacon. I cook the night before due to time. For Lunch I have chicken soup as it is somtehing that I am able to stretch out and have available when i get home. I put in it chicken breast, and make the broth from that and I cut put in a bit of onion, some napa cabbage, and some hot pepper and call that lunch. For Supper I have a healthy portion steak with salad made of Romaine Letuce and Spinache. For Snack I fry some bacon and carry with me to work. Sometime I bring boiled eggs with me and use Potassium Chloride...trying to cut down on the sodium.
My Vitamin Regamen consists of 2 1200 mg fish oil tablets, a multivitamin, 1200 mg of calcium since i am not ingesting milk, 1000 IU of Vitamin E, and a Super B-Complex Vitamin that gives me the extra B Vitamins.
I do drink Lots and lots of water. I walk for an hour in the AM and for 30 minutes during the Pm.
What else can I do. Someone said that if you eat a meal of anything you want that would shock your body back on track. I am so very serious about losing this weight. I want this monkey off my back. I dont have alot of people to turn to. Most of my co-workers have tried atkins and have been unsuccessful and gave up on it.
Please tell me how to break this barrier. I don't feel like jogging is a good answer at this moment as I am still big for my size. I just been eating what is recommended for the Atkins Acceptable Foods List. I am working on expanding my variety of foods. Please do help me. Chris
AnswerChris,
The best thing you can do is start tracking total calories and grams of protein, in addition to grams of carbs. The larger you are, the more protein you need, so when you cut calories, it can be helpful to watch the protein.
Eating too few calories can cause you to stop losing weight. Atkins protects you somewhat, but if a man your size eats less than 2,000 calories a day, your metabolism will slow down to compensate. Your calorie goal should be between 2,000 and 2,500 cals daily. You need at least 110 grams of protein daily, and based on your diet I don't know if you're getting it.
