Questionmy husband has been exposed to asbestos a long time ago. Is there any such thing as an asbestos detox
AnswerDear Tracey,
Sorry it took a while to answer your question, I took a short summer break.
I sincerely hope you are not too worried about your situation. Let me be very frank, though: to my knowledge there is no asbestos detox possible. Unlike with radioactivity or X-rays etc, there is no way of preventing contamination on subtle levels: the particles just get lodged in your lungs, and that's that.
I worked for an asbestos removal company for a while and I know the risks involved from exposure; especially firemen used to get exposed, often outside their knowledge. Most bitterly unfair.
From a complementary medical point of view I can only remind you that ailments and diseases "attatch" and "prosper" under certain "positive" conditions. Therefore keeping energy levels high on a physical and emotional level is important when your body is put under extra stress (i.e. any kind of "toxic" exposure, including many equally disconcerting factors of modern, western, city life-styles).
My own father was also exposed to many highly toxic chemicals without any safety measures in place at the time, during his student days as a chemist in the fifties, and he worries about the consequences still. He is now almost seventy and not obviously suffering from anything. Quite clearly, some people can "take more" than others just by innate, genetic, physical dispositions.
If the exposure was for a longer period of time and markedly intensive, I can understand your worries, but I hope you will bear in mind there are also a lot of scary stories out there which are more likely to effect your health negatively than the actual exposure! For verily, a calm state of mind and a positive outlook can so very much influence your health and/or coping with any kind of illness.
In short, a healthy, well-balanced life-style can increase well-being in many cases, but if the asbestos has found a "weak spot" and causes cancer there is nothing but surgery which can remedy the situation; thereafter a healthy diet will much enhance recuperation without a doubt. If no signs of ill health have occurred so far, it is best to be as sensible as the next person (so many of us have been exposed to asbestos unwittingly!) and make sure you stay fit and happy by enjoying your life and your meals with love and gratitude for all the goodness available to you.
Part of such a life style will include lots of exercise but also real (meditative) relaxation and of course, sufficient fresh vegetables, preferably organic with no extra burdensome toxins.
Hoping it will sound far from morbid or ominous, I would like to remind you to celebrate the loveliness of your life on a daily basis (a living in the Now). This is what everybody really must do all the time. In a sense your concern (potential health scare)can help you do this more easily than the rest of us. There is great value in this. Hopefully you will have a great many years together in which to do this daily and lavishly without any diminshment to your well-being forcing you to find optimism in ever smaller details.
Wishing you much health and happiness,
Love Evelyn.
