QuestionI'm a 45 year old woman, 5'7" tall, and weigh 200 pounds. The weight has
been creeping on for the last 5 years. (I weighed 155lbs). My family moved 3
times and dealt with some medical issues which was part of the problem for
my not taking care of myself.
For the past few months, I've been logging my food, eating between
1200-1500 calories a day. I've upped my intake of raw veggies and fruit (6-8
servings a day). I go to the gym 3x a week and do a varied routine of
stregnth training, and 30 minutes on the ellliptical trainer (I am sweating a
lot). On my other days, I walk briskly 30 minutes a day.
My weight has fluctuated between 200 -205 for the past few months.
I used to be a classic "pear shape" with a semi flat stomach. I have noticed my
stomach is considerably larger. I have gone to the doctor to have my
metabolism, thyroid, blood sugar checked. I went off the pill 6 months ago.
That being said, I am asthmatic, and have taken prednisone (steriods) off and
on (maybe 2-3 times/yr for a week at a time) over the past 10 years. Could
that have something to do with my weight not coming off? I'm really at a
loss. Any insight or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
AnswerHi Pam,
There are a couple of things I suspect are affecting your weight loss. 1. Steroids and coming off the pill definitely can slow down weight loss. 2. Based on your weight and level of activity, you are currently not eating enough calories. I would change that to 1500-1700 calories per day. But they also have to be the right calories.
Can you tell me everything you eat on a typical day?
How much water do you drink?
What did your doctor say re the results of the testing you had done?
Thanks and I'm sure I can help further upon follow up.
Thanks,
Lea
