QuestionCan you please recommend a manufacturer for a "weigh gain" supplement to compliment a 100% Whey Protien product?
I am a 160 lbs skinny guy, 6'2" tall. I have been pretty skinny my entire youth (28 now), but seem to have the frame to support a larger mass. Particularly looking to add any mass to the chest, upper, and lower stomach areas as i do not wish to see ribs anymore! It seems like it has always been hard for me to gain weight (I tell people this and they think i'm being sarcastic)
I have used the Optimum Nutrition brand 100% Whey Protien shakes only once before (5 years back, a 10lb bag), and the reasoning behind this choice was the lack of harmful sugars, artificials, etc... During that time, with a muscle training workout, was about the only time I have gained weight for a long time! (135lbs to 150lbs i believe)
I would like to gain both muscle mass and a little body fat as naturally as possible, should I stick with ON (pro Complex Gainer) for a weight gain supplement? I feel like my current diet is not providing all the minerals and vitamins nessicary (as well as calories), and I do not take any other vitamin or daily supplement. I try and eat as healthy as possible by cooking my own meals, generally a meat coupled with rice, or green beans.
There are a lot of brands out there, half seem catered to meat head types with the information they provide in the description field :) I am looking for value I guess, looking to avoid unessicary additives, and harmful stuff.
Any help and recomendations are greatly appreciated! Thanks!
AnswerI am sorry, but this is out of my expertise and I wouldn't want to lead you astray. Most of my experience has been in clinical nutrition. I have studied only the basics of sports nutrition and have very, very limited knowledge of protein supplements. I will say you are making the right decision to use whole whey protein, which is both readily absorbed and contains complete protein. If you were asking about your overall diet, I would say I am worried about your fiber intake and you should probably take a multivitamin and try to increase your fruit and vegetable intake. And I would warn you too much protein can be hard on your kidneys! :-) You should increase overall calories to gain weight, not just calories from protein. And, unfortunately, you can neither gain nor lose weight in specific areas of your body.
I would recommend you try a company that sells vegetarian products, since vegetarians tend to be health conscious. I also did a quick search and found a whey protein made by Nutrabio which contains only whey protein and soy lecithin. TrueProtein may also make an additive-free whey supplement; it was recommended on other websites but hard to tell from theirs.
Again, I am sorry I can't help you more. Good luck!
