QuestionIsn't all protein (being by definition an acid--an amino acid) acidic? I have heard that raw meat has amonia making it alkaline. Can you please shed some light on the relative acidity or alkalinity of raw meat? Thanks!
AnswerWell, cooked meat is rather acidic, processed meat is heavily acidic, with raw meat only being slightly acidic, at least judging from the rather meagre data available. Basically, the more processed a food is the more acidic it will be(unsurprising as high acidity helps kill off bacteria and prolongs shelf-life).
You shouldn't worry, though, re this acid/alkaline issue. Rawpalaeos(whether raw omnivore or raw, zero-carb) invariably find that the whole acid-base/alkali theory is bogus with them having no problems re bone-health - besides, the acid/alkali theory doesn't explain how the Eskimoes managed to have excellent bone-health while they still followed their traditional, all-meat diet. The only catch is that if one is on a raw-animal-food and vegetable diet and is worried re the health of their teeth/bones, that one should take care to avoid raw dairy like the plague, as it's particularly damaging in that regard, but raw meats are not a problem.
