i am 17 and have always tried to eat very healthy. When im at the top of my game im at 95% raw. The only reason im not 100% is because of meat. Whenever i would tell my mom i want to eat raw meat she gets really angry at me, and tells me how stupid and dangerous it is. My question is since i have never eaten raw meat doesn't this mean my immune system isnt "equipped" with the right antibodies to kill of large amounts of salmonella and e coli? How do i make this transition? How long is raw meat good for in the fridge? Also what about parasites, if its not cooked what kills parasites?

AnswerWhen you read about food-poisoning epidemics, there is a lot of obfuscation. First of all, the deaths from food-poisoning, on closer inspection, invariably involve very old, frail people with diabetes type 2, or very sickly babies. In other words, it is the environment not the pathogen that is the problem. Plus, most cases of food-poisoning involve canned foods(which are heavily overcooked) and/or foods which have been cooked and left out too long and then get infested with bacteria(bacteria and cooked foods are a deadly combination, not raw plus bacteria). There are also points made by Aajonus and others that we have e coli and salmonella in our stomachs and in our households yet we aren't routinely affected with bacterial epidemics as a result(here's mention of AV's comments re salmonella :-

The long and the short of it is that if you eat an unhealthy diet then you may be at risk of food-poisoning(unhealthy grainfed meats are an issue re food-poisoning re e coli, but nor grassfed meats(check the scientific research page on eatwild.com).But on a healthy raw palaeolithic diet, there are no issues. For one thing, adaptation to a RPD diet is quick and relatively easy.
Re storing raw meat in fridge:- It all depends on you. Most long-term Rawpalaeos love storing raw meat in containers and making "high-meat" out of them, consuming them for several months each year."High-meat" is simply bacteria-rich raw meat aged for many weeks/months and is used for boosting peoples' mood/concentration/alertness and for helping one's digestion, and is an old Eskimo recipe. As you can see, if there were any truth to these food-poisoning claims, then many people on RVAF diets would be dying in multitudes from "high-meat" consumption, which just isn't the case. And some newbies with serious digestive issues from past SAD diets have resorted to "high-meat" in the very early stages of going rawpalaeo and haven't had any food-poisoning issues despite still not having recovered yet from the serious health-problems they got from cooked, SAD diets.
As such most newbies take ratherr longer to get used to the taste of "high-meat" by comparison to fresh, raw meats. When I first started, I was so conditioned against aged raw meats, that I would have to buy fresh raw animal food every couple of days as I couldn't handle the taste of fresh, raw meats left in the fridge for more than 2 days after its purchase. As time went on, I, out of laziness, left meats in there for longer periods, and found I had no issues with raw meats I'd left there for 10 days. Later on, I tried "high-meat" despite some initial misgivings, and similiarly found I had no negative side-effects from it.
Re parasites:- In the developed world, farmers organic or otherwise routinely give deworming medicines to their animals so that parasite-infestation is practically nonexistent. As a result, very few rawpalaeos ever get a parasite-infestation and the tiny minority that do tell of no negative side-effects with the parasites eventually leaving via the stools.
It's been claimed by food-authorities that raw wild game is absolutely infested with parasites. Yet, many rawists, myself included, have been eating lots of raw wild game for years with no issues. There are various conclusions to be made therefore:- either a) the number of parasites in wild species is much lower than what is claimed by authorities or b) the rawists I mentioned do have parasites but are not affected by them in a negative way or c) I've read that many parasites are often specifically adapted only to certain species so that they die within weeks if in a host organism they are not adapted to(pig-worms being an example, I seem to recall?)
While long-term rawpalaeos generally are not fussed by the parasite-issue after years of experience on this diet, we all go through an initial phase as newbies where we're scared of them due to various hysterical reports in the media which surface from time to time mentioning parasites. My suggestion, for purposes of reassurance, is to buy some anti-parasitical herbs(as unprocessed as possible, IMO). I believe Hulda Clarke, the fanatical anti-parasite guru, recommends a combination of black walnut, cloves and wormwood, which is supposed to be the most effective. So, use that combination every now and then, if you're concerned. Using standard anti-parasite drugs is probably not a good idea as pharmaceutical drugs can have some nasty side-effects.
Another method that newbies use who are worried re the issue of parasites is freezing all raw animal food for 14 days in the freezer, before consumption. Presumably, buying prefrozen meat would mean you wouldn't need to do that, though. Freezing does cause some minor damage, though. At any rate, try out some of these ideas - eventually, you'll find, like others before you, that such concerns re parasites etc. are basically needless.
