QuestionGood afternoon,
Do you have anything to make raw organ meats (heart, etc) more palatable? Kidneys aren't that bad (although still a bit "bleh") and liver I think I can live with, but I just can't get the heart down without forcing myself (tried blending it in food processor with other things... bad idea).
I'm asking this because I know organ meats are very good to eat, but if I have to force myself I'm sure it's not doing me any good.
Oh, and I do have Aajonus' book but it doesn't have anything about heart/kidneys.

AnswerIt generally takes c.8-12 months for people to get fully used to raw animal foods and to start enjoying the taste of them. During that initial stage, people either use food-processors and/or they adulterate the raw foods with raw spices. I would use spices like raw garlic or raw onion or cayenne pepper/black pepper etc.
I also used another trick:- I would make sure to sample tiny amounts of 100s of different raw animal foods by visiting endless farmers' markets and other sources. I quickly found that some raw animal foods I got used to instantly such as raw scallops and raw wildcaught oysters and raw goatmeat, while others such as raw squid tubes, raw kidney and,especially, raw liver, were unpalatable at first. My solution was to make sure that the raw-animal-food-portion of my diet consisted 90% of the raw animal foods I liked and 10% of the raw animal foods I disliked. As time went on, some of the foods I initially disliked such as raw kidneys quickly became a favourite of mine and belonged then in the 90% category. Eventually, I got used to most raw animal foods. There are a few RAF foods I still loathe such as raw chicken but that's likely because, in the UK, chickens are fed on very unhealthy grainfed diets.
I would suggest first trying out raw tongue or raw marrow as they are the easiest raw organs to get used to , IMO.
